The 4 Cs in Action
June and July have been full of collaboration across Plumas County, including:
- A hazmat exercise with first responders, hosted by our County Office of Emergency Management
- Continued work on the Emergency Access Food Plan, being led by the Dawn Institute, which we are planning to present to our Board of Supervisors in the coming months
- Training and field experience in Fire Safe Home Visits, hosted by the Plumas County Fire Safe Council with Cal Fire.
- Regional and state coordination, in particular our regular conversations that inspire and create initiatives to make our communities safer
- Many, many Firewise Community meetings, work days, and neighbors helping neighbors
- An opportunity to comment on the Housing Element of the Plumas County Planning Department's General Plan
There are so many opportunities to contribute to all the different community efforts that make our communities safer, so please let me know if I can link you up with one of our many groups and initiatives.
Who Will Be Our Next California Insurance Commissioner?
The Northeast corner of our state is one of the few remaining affordable areas for all kinds of Californians - families with young children, elders, professionals in the trades and natural resource management, students, educators, veterans, farmers, and especially people who love our rural lifestyle and natural beauty. I arrived here as a single working mom, looking for a place to raise my children near family and in a healthy environment. I found community and connection, and a house that I could afford on one salary. These days, the cost of my home insurance that includes wildfire coverage as well as flood coverage, exceeds the cost of my mortgage on an annual basis. I visit with residents all over Plumas County who are struggling to pay their insurance or being forced to choose between insuring their home and paying their food, gas, and medical bills.
I'm inviting the two candidates for California Insurance Commissioner, Ben Allen and Jane Kim, to join us to talk about their vision for making insurance more affordable and helping communities like ours remain affordable for regular Californians.
Our first session is with State Senator Ben Allen, from Santa Monica in Southern California.

Plumas County VOAD is an umbrella for the volunteers, non-profit organizations, and government partners who support disaster response. VOAD stands for Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, and we live by the "Four C's" of disaster response:

- Coordination - Using resources to help communities prepare and recover
- Communication - Developing and maintaining effective channels for sharing information
- Collaboration - Identifying common goals and creating shared solutions
